When looking through the productivity tools I found a few that I really liked. I use Pandora and it is a site that I have really liked for a while now although most of the time I now use the radio function on my iPhone. I really like google docs. You are able to edit documents from anywhere as long as you have internet access. You can also have multiple people accessing and working on the same document at the same time. The google calendar seemed pretty nice. It would be convenient to use it because I already have a google account but it also sends notifications to your phone through texts and the program itself syncs with your phone also. I was looking at the ThinkFree program and to me it essentially looked like it did some of the same things as Google but not everything. In general I am becoming more of a Google fan all of the time.
I actually think that I would be able to incorporate quite a few of the technologies that we have discussed so far in to my coaching career. I can use Social Networking by creating at least two different pages, one for me as a coach and one for the team that I am currently coaching. The page for the team can be used all of the time for sending out announcements, accomplishments, and standings. I would be able to post practice schedules and tournament schedules which would make it easier for athletes and parent so access instead of handing out papers which the athletes are likely to lose.On these sites that I would create I would also be able to post many pictures of the girls, practices, and of games.
As a coach creating a Personal Learning Network (PLN) can be extremely useful. I would be able to stay up to date on new rules or changes to rules. I would also be able to seek new techniques of coaching as well as new and different drills to advance my players. In order to do any of this I would have to use the Internet which I believe as long as it is used in the right way can be extremely useful. The Internet lets us keep in touch faster, learn new things, send announcements easier, and much more. The possibilities that the Internet brings are endless and can help me as a coach to learn more, b
Podcasting in education is becoming more and more prevalent. It is something that if used right can be extremely helpful. Podcasts can be used as a review for students after listening to a lecture or if a student has to miss class for any reason then they can at least get the highlights of the class. It is easier to take notes off of podcasts also because you can stop and start it multiple times to make sure the your notes are thorough. Podcasts also make online classes possible which in my case and in the case of many students is extremely helpful. If you do not live near a school but still want to take classes there you can take them online and use podcasts to listen to the lectures or any other comments that the teacher has for you. It is also helpful for students to be able to hear the teachers voice in order to personalize the message.
Podcasts are also great for students who learn better my hearing the lecture rather than reading it. Some people are more verbal learners so being able to read the book or lecture and then listening to it would help it sink in better. It is also more beneficial to learning when a person can use different media to learn the lesson. The more a person goes over the material, whether it be reading, writing, listening, or watching, the more the student will learn it and it will go into long term me
Using social networking in Undergraduate education is a good idea. I think that using social networks is a great way of students getting to know each other better and it would help them to feel a little bit more comfortable contributing to conversations. I feel that a lot of times students are uncomfortable to start conversations in online programs. If there was a part of the program that was on Facebook it would be easier for students to get to know each other and in turn feel more comfortable with responding to posts and even starting new ones. I think that using a social network for undergraduate education could potentially be a great thing. There are always hazards when doing something like this and one would still have to be careful as to what is said and how they say it but that is true in any online class or even in the classroom. Overall I believe that this idea has potential to catch on
On my PLN I decided to follow a few softball links. The first is the ASA (Amateur Softball Association) webpage, the second is the CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) webpage, and the NCAA market webpage. I chose these sites because the first two will help me stay up to date on any new rules that may come up or important softball information and the third is a webpage to look up collegiate athletic jobs all across the nation. These three sites can be very useful to me in the future.
I believe that the Internet can be a great thing if used correctly. It can be used to do so much good and to learn an innumerable amount of things. I personally almost daily have a question whether it is about something fairly insignificant like the age of a particular actor or something about some homework or something historical and hop on my phone and look it up via the Internet. The Internet has impacted my personal learning in a great big way! I can get on the computer and click a few button and type a few words rather than drive into a library somewhere.
When getting online there really are not any specific sites that I go to or people that I follow . The web really helps my learning because a lot of what I need is just at the tips of my fingers. Although the Internet is a good thing I can get easily distracted by things like Facebook or games. I intend on taking a five minute break and the next time I look at the clock its twenty or thirty minutes later. Overall I feel that technology is and can be a very good thing for learning as long as it is used in the right way.
With coaching my biggest strength is hitting. As a coach I can see the little details within the swing. I know by the outcome of the hit what the likely problem is within the fundamental movements of the swing. I am also in my element when it comes to first base. I can focus on the little things with both of these elements of the game. My weakness is the outfield. I personally never played there and so I lack the complete knowledge that goes with coaching in the outfield. Over the last few years I have been an assistant to the varsity team and half of the time my main job at practice was to work with the outfield so as in the video that is where I have been able to grow the most.
